impossibile nei primi turni poi un suggestivo ottavo contro il nostro Jannik
Sinner ed un bellissimo quarto contro il giovanissimo talento canadese
Denis Shapovalov, che gioca probabilmente il tennis più spumeggiante del
circuito. Particolare curioso: in questa parte alta del tabellone giocano
tutti e dieci gli italiani; potremo perciò assistere a molti derby all’ultimo
sangue.

Nella parte bassa del tabellone i possibili incroci agli ottavi sono Rublev-
Auger Aliassime, Garin-Tsitsipas, il norvegese Ruud, una delle sorprese
della prima parte della stagione contro l’argentino Schwartzman, una
delle maggiori delusioni ed infine Dimitrov-Medvedev.
Un torneo di altissimo livello quindi nonostante le assenze dolorose di
Federer e Nadal e quella altrettanto triste di Dominic Thiem, campione
uscente ed ex numero 3 del mondo, che quest’anno ha conosciuto la
stagione più nera della sua carriera.
